Totally Enclosed, Fan Cooled (TEFC) motors are designed for use in harsh environments or applications that are exposed to the weather. These motors are completely enclosed and have an external cooling fan that blows air over the outside of the motor.  TEFC motors are not watertight, but are more water resistant than Open motors.  Most dirt and contaminents will not get to the internal workings of the motor when properly installed.
